13 Signs And Symptoms Of Overhydration To Know

Seizures

Overhydration can cause seizures, as it is a symptom of the condition. Seizures are caused when the electrical activity in the brain becomes disorganized or erratic, known as an electrographic seizure. This type of seizure causes the electrical activity in a part of the brain to become chaotic and disorganized. Once this happens, the normal functions of that part of the brain become disrupted. Seizures can cause a person to lose consciousness, experience muscle contractions and convulsions, and fall or collapse. Sometimes, they may only experience a brief moment of confusion or daze during the seizure.

Different types of seizures can occur due to overhydration. One type, known as a primary generalized seizure, occurs when there is abnormal activity throughout both hemispheres of the brain at once (brain-wide). This type of seizure is referred to as generalized because it simultaneously affects both sides of the brain.

Primary generalized seizures may be caused by fever, head injury, and overhydration. The second type is known as a secondary generalized seizure. This type of seizure is referred to as generalized because it affects both sides of the brain simultaneously.
