Heart Palpitations
Heart palpitations, also known as heart arrhythmia, are another recognizable sign of iron deficiency and are described to cause an irregular heartbeat or problems that revolve around the heart’s rhythm. The relationship between heart palpitations and iron deficiency or anemia is believed to be a product of the relationship between blood oxygen saturation. However, the actual reason is still being studied.
Heart palpitations are defined by precise, distinct, and fast heartbeats. Additionally, heart palpitations can lead to your heart beating irregularly or at an intense rate. Due to insufficient oxygen in one’s bloodstream, the body tries to compensate by making adjustments to make the heart work harder by pumping out more blood throughout the body.
However, this symptom is not very common in patients with iron deficiency. Moreover, it is worth noting that iron deficiency has been observed to worsen existing conditions, such as heart failure and coronary heart disease in severe cases of anemia.
