9 Natural Remedies For Leg Cramps (At Home)

Massage the Affected Area

As soon as leg cramps happen, the affected area will start contracting, and the muscles will be stiff to the touch. Massaging this area may reduce the pain and duration of the leg cramps. It may feel tender and painful to massage the contracting muscle at the start, but it will slowly relax as pressure is constantly applied.

Use both hands to knead the cramping muscle to loosen and relax. For the calf area, use both hands to knead the muscle towards the foot, and for the quadriceps, use the hands or knuckles to knead the muscle towards the knee. For the feet, cramps are usually felt in the inner arch of the foot. Relax the toes and massage the muscle until it relaxes. For the hamstrings, it may be a bit harder to do it without a partner as it is hard to reach.

Another way to massage the muscles during cramps is using a foam roller. This is a great way to knead the muscles to help them relax. If unfamiliar with how to use a foam roller, make sure to ask for professional assistance as this may cause injuries.
