Gastroenteritis
Bacterial infections around the body can cause all sorts of problems, and a bacterial infection in the colon and stomach can lead to inflammation — also known as gastroenteritis. While there are multiple forms of gastroenteritis, the viral variant typically does not involve bloody diarrhea. Otherwise, your bowel movement could include blood and mucus due to the inflammation. Gastroenteritis is relatively common and can be treated in different ways. That said, the primary treatment for gastroenteritis is usually plenty of fluids, rest, and a round of antibiotics or other medicines, depending on the symptoms.
While a bloody stool can be stressful, there’s no reason to be scared. The underlying issue might not be that bad, depending on the other symptoms. As stated above, gastroenteritis can be treated in a variety of ways. When you start noticing mucus and blood during bowel movements, it’s a good idea to contact your doctor, but it’s not enough reason to get anxious. Inflammation of the stomach and colon is widespread, and the treatment is usually quick and painless. If you want to avoid gastroenteritis in the future, it’s not a bad idea to consider different lifestyle choices.
