Respiratory Infection
Vitamin A has anti-inflammatory properties, which help the immune system function properly. Insufficient amounts of this vitamin in the body could impact the immune system, thus making it difficult to fight infections like upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Upper respiratory tract infection affects the respiratory system. Examples are sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, epiglottitis, and the common cold. Lower respiratory tract infection is an infection in the lungs and airways, like pneumonia, chest infection, bronchiolitis, and bronchitis.
Bacteria or viruses may cause these infections, and as mentioned, vitamin A deficiency could cause the infection to progress since the immune system is not strong enough to fight it. The doctor will provide treatment based on the diagnosed infection. Over-the-counter medicines are available for some of these conditions, like the common cold. Antibiotics may also be prescribed for bacterial infection. If a virus causes it, antibiotics will not work since viruses do not respond to them. You may also be asked to have plenty of rest and fluids. In addition, eating nutritious foods, including those packed in vitamin A could strengthen the immune system and prevent infections.
