Obesity
The World Health Organization defines obesity or overweight as the abnormal or excessive fats a person has that cause serious health diseases, conditions, and illnesses. Many people think obesity is a cosmetic problem, but this condition is a serious health threat because it affects all of the body’s organs and daily activities.
According to experts, obesity can be related to thumb pain. When the fatty fat tissue increases, it also increases the inflammatory tissues. This tissue produces proteins, which are called cytokines. The cytokines cause inflammation in and around the joints. The most common targeted joint is the joint found in the fingers.
Thumb pain is a common effect of obesity due to the inflammatory effect of the fatty tissues in an obese person. When the tissues linger and cover the joints of the thumb, it can cause rubbing or friction, resulting in pain in the thumb. Alongside it, the pain usually results in the inability to perform hand movements using the thumb.
