Pinworms go through a four-stage life cycle. The first stage begins when the female pinworm lays its eggs around the anus. These eggs are incredibly small and can only be seen with a microscope. The female pinworm can lay up to 16,000 eggs in its lifetime.
Once the eggs are laid, they hatch into larvae within a few hours. The larvae then travel to the large intestine, where they mature into adult pinworms. The adult worms live for about six weeks in the intestine before dying and passing in the stool.
However, some eggs can become embedded in beddings and other fabric materials. So when someone new comes into contact with these contaminated materials, they can end up with pinworms too. That’s why it’s so important to wash bedding regularly in individuals who think they might have pinworms.
An excellent home remedy for pinworms is to eat more antiparasitic foods. These include pumpkin seeds, garlic, papaya, and carrots. Individuals with pinworms can also take oral medication like albendazole to get rid of pinworms quickly. It is crucial to follow the directions on the package carefully.
