Irritated, Itching, or Watering Eyes
The effects of MCAS on the eyes result in dryness, itching, or a burning feeling. It may also result in conjunctivitis or pink eye. This is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, the transparent membrane that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of the eyeball. MCAS may also cause hypersensitivity to light, excessive tearing, and other visual disturbances.
According to studies, around 32 percent of MCAS patients report eye problems. Most of these issues are chronic or recurring. They occasionally happen without any known trigger or apparent cause of inflammation, despite seeking ophthalmologic help.
Eye problems are common. They could hit anytime due to some issues or as people age. Sometimes, they also come as complications of a health condition. It’s difficult to tell what’s wrong with the eyes by merely looking at them. Instead, people should learn how to take care of their vision and recognize problems when they appear. In the case of MCAS-related eye issues, proper treatment is essential to make the symptoms more manageable.
