Easy Bruising or Bleeding
One of the dangerous complications of liver failure is a bleeding disorder. When the liver is not functioning as it should, it cannot make enough clotting factors that regulate how the blood clots. As a result, the patient gets easily bruised and may have internal bleeding that’s difficult to control.
Easy bruising is common with age. This is because older people with thinner skin do not have enough cushion to protect the blood vessels from bursting even with the slightest trauma. But it’s different with significantly younger people with frequent and large bruises that seem to develop for no reason because they could be a sign of blood disease or a blood clotting problem secondary to a health issue such as liver failure.
Medical professionals often require physical and laboratory exams to find out the underlying cause of bruising or bleeding easily so they can recommend the best treatment to prevent it from happening again. Unfortunately, once the bruise forms, there is nothing much to do but let it eventually disappear as the body reabsorbs the blood and returns to its normal circulation.
