What Causes Leg Cramps? 10 Common Causes (You Should Know)

Warm Up and Stretching

For most adults, bodies may not be as limber and ready for action as they used to be during the adolescent years. Shocking muscles with sudden movements without warming them up may also cause leg cramps. Including a warm-up or quick mobility routine in the morning can help warm up the muscles to get ready for the day.

For the hamstring, sitting down on the floor with straightened legs while reaching for the toes can help stretch them out. For the calves, go into a lunge position, push against a wall with both hands, and anchor the back heel to the floor to get a good stretch. For the quadriceps, kneel on one leg, keep both legs near right angles, and drive the hip forward.

Simple movements such as squats, lunges, reaching for the toes while standing up, and different yoga positions, such as downward dog, are also good ways to gain mobility in your legs, stretch out these muscles, and prevent leg cramps. In addition, you can include these different types of movements in morning rituals to help wake up the body.
