Fever and Chills
Fever and chills are two conditions that occur mostly at the same time. Fever is described as the sudden rise of body temperature, while chills are cold sensations without an apparent cause. Contrary to popular belief, fever and chills are not diseases, but they are indications that something is not right in the body. For example, they can signify that a certain part of the body is suffering from a bacterial or viral infection or fighting a more severe disease, like kidney pain.
To fight the infection in the kidney, the body tends to work faster by increasing the white blood cells that affect the hypothalamus. This condition makes the body heat up, which in turn causes fever. When a fever is about to start, a person may feel cold and may start to chill.
Patients with kidney pain may experience fever and chills accompanied by back pain, abdominal pain, and frequent urination. When these symptoms are present, it usually signifies that the infection has spread to the different parts of the urinary tract. Therefore, doctors may instruct patients to undergo a series of tests to identify the exact location of the infection.
