Loss of Appetite
Most kidney pain symptoms are physiological, but there are other signs besides aches and pain. For instance, patients with kidney pain may experience sudden weight loss due to loss of appetite. However, experts are still unsure whether loss of appetite is due to the illness or the treatments and medications patients need to take. Nonetheless, almost 87% of patients diagnosed with kidney pain suffer from anorexia or extreme loss of appetite.
A recent study explained that loss of appetite due to kidney pain is due to several changes in the patient’s body. For example, compounds are built and mixed in the blood during the early stage of kidney pain, which suppress one’s appetite. These chemical changes may also affect the taste buds of the patient. As a result, some patients reported that their food started to taste like blood. Experts explained that these changes terrify patients, making them lose interest in food. Moreover, medications and treatments for kidney pain may make the patients feel drained and exhausted, making them lose their appetite.
