Decrease in Exercise Performance
Cutting down carbs can make you feel generally exhausted at first. This includes a temporary decline in physical performance. The decrease in the glycogen stores in your muscles is the leading cause, as they serve as the primary and most effective fuel source for high-intensity activity.
But most keto diet followers recover from this after a few weeks. Many people who follow a ketogenic diet claim that their performance returns to normal after a few weeks. A ketogenic diet is advantageous in some ultra-endurance sports and events. Furthermore, there are additional advantages, the most notable of which is an increased ability to burn fat during activity.
According to a small but well-known study, athletes who switched to a ketogenic diet burnt up to 230 percent more fat during exercise than those who weren’t on this diet. While a keto diet is unlikely to improve performance for professional athletes, it should suffice for general activity and recreational sports once fat-adapted.
