Constipation
Constipation is defined as the difficulty of moving the bowels. It can happen for multiple reasons and can be addressed in most cases with little more than lifestyle changes and home remedies. However, sometimes they can be caused by serious medical conditions. Some symptoms of constipation are difficulties and strain in passing stool, hard or dry stool, abdominal cramping or pain, feelings of bloatedness, nausea, and appetite loss.
By themselves, bouts of constipation aren’t life-threatening, even if they’re painful. However, it’s a problem if it’s triggered by a severe medical issue like colorectal cancer. It can also be problematic if it starts to do damage. Some of the damage that may arise due to constipation are rectal bleeding, anal fissures, symptomatic hemorrhoids, and fecal impaction. Other complications frequent constipation can give rise to are depression and lowered quality or standards of living.
Those with high fiber in their diets are at a lower risk of developing constipation. The reason is that fiber usually promotes the regular movement of bowels, especially when combined with adequate hydration. Some foods with high fiber are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, chickpeas, lentils, and legumes. Studies have also shown that physical activity prevents constipation.
