Mastic
The evergreen plant known as mastic is found in many parts of the Mediterranean, wherein the resin is extracted from its trunk to use in pharmaceutical preparations. Researchers reported that mastic gum aids in both digestive and gastrointestinal health. It alleviates stomach pain, inflammation, and discomfort. Furthermore, mastic gum’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can help digestion. Also, it may aid in eradicating H. pylori. The best success rates in combatting H. pylori were shown in those who also took an antibiotic while using mastic gum. Evidence suggests that mastic gum’s antibacterial properties are effective against H. pylori and six other ulcer-causing bacteria. These benefits stem partly from its antisecretory, cytoprotective, and antibacterial properties. Mastic also helps reduce stomach acid production and protects the lining of the digestive system. Potential antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties are also being researched.
Try chewing 350 mg of mastic gum three times a day as a start. According to the recommended dosage, you may also take three equal dosages throughout the day; daily dosing of 1 g of mastic may help alleviate some discomfort associated with stomach ulcers. However, there is little solid evidence to back the claims that mastic may treat stomach ulcers, indigestion, Crohn’s disease, wound healing, and other ailments.
