Clove Oil
Clove oil has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for pain relief. The main compound in clove oil, eugenol, is a natural anesthetic that numbs the nerves and helps to reduce inflammation. It also has antibacterial properties that can help to fight infection.
To use clove oil for toothache pain relief, apply a few drops to a cotton ball and hold it against the sore tooth for 10-15 minutes at a time. This can be done several times per day as needed. Next, add a few drops of clove oil to water and swish it around the mouth for a minute or two before spitting it out. Not swallowing any of the oil is important since eugenol can be toxic in large doses.
If there is no clove oil on hand, individuals with a toothache can also try chewing on fresh cloves or making a paste with ground cloves and water. Apply the paste directly to the sore tooth and leave it in place for 10-15 minutes before rinsing the mouth with water.
