Regular Brushing
Regular oral hygiene is essential in keeping your teeth clean and removing any bacteria or plaque present in the mouth. And brushing your teeth twice daily is one of the best things you can do to prevent tooth decay and dental cavities. In addition, it can help you avoid bad breath. More importantly, it’s a way to stave off or treat specific gum diseases, including but not necessarily limited to tooth infections.
However, the practice is only effective if it’s done regularly using the right technique. Everyone should brush their teeth using tiny circular motions, ensuring that the teeth’s top, back, and front are cleaned. As a general rule of thumb, giving the action two to three minutes is recommended to eliminate any substances that may damage the gums or teeth. Moreover, it’s best to avoid the back-and-forth sawing motion.
It’s also ill-advised to use hard-bristled toothbrushes or brush your teeth too hard, as they may damage your gums and tooth enamel. Its effects may include gum erosion, protective enamel damage, and tooth sensitivity or pain. Instead, the ADA, or American Dental Association, recommends using toothbrushes with soft bristles. Also, replacing your toothbrush every two or three months is advisable.
