Oil Pulling
Oil pulling uses oil to swish into the mouth to remove bacteria and promote good oral hygiene. This process is popular in Ayurvedic medicine and has been practiced for a long time. Studies show that oil pulling can destroy unwanted bacteria in the mouth and improve dental health. There are also claims that oil pulling can treat various diseases related to mouth disease, such as tonsil stones.
According to practitioners of Ayurvedic medicines, the oil pulls the bacteria in the mouth by moisturizing the gums and increasing the saliva content, reducing bacterial growth in the mouth.
The effectiveness of oil pulling varies, as it depends on the oil used. For example, sesame oil is effective in reducing the bacterial content in the mouth. As a result, the amount of bacteria in the saliva was significantly reduced after 15 days of continual use. Another effective oil is coconut. In two weeks, it can drop the number of bacteria swarming inside the mouth.
To do oil pulling, swish a tablespoon full of oil around the mouth before breakfast. Then rinse and proceed to proper brushing. This process will extract the existing bacteria that house inside the mouth.
