Zinc Supplements
Essential minerals like zinc aid in transmitting nerve signals to ensure the brain receives them, including those involved in our hearing. Some scientists think the deficiency of this mineral may interfere with or disrupt the signals, as mentioned earlier, and potentially contribute to tinnitus. But like acupuncture and Ginkgo Biloba, there’s a debate on whether or not zinc, or lack thereof, can cause or aggravate tinnitus. In one study, low zinc levels were found in adults suffering from tinnitus. While the findings were interesting, zinc deficiency is relatively common among adults, affecting thirty-five to forty-five percent of them in the US.
Even so, research suggests zinc supplements help curb the symptoms. Some studies have shown a subjective, if not remarkable, improvement in some participants who were given zinc supplements over those who had a placebo. Similar to alternative treatment methods, zinc supplements may help ease tinnitus for some. However, the evidence supporting it isn’t robust.
