Honey
Honey is a sweet fluid produced by bees. Aside from its function as a natural sweetener, honey is known to treat burns, swelling, and sores inside the mouth. In addition, honey has impressive anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties.
The flavonoids and polyphenols found in honey are responsible for honey’s effectiveness in treating gum infection and inflammation. In addition, these compounds restrict plaque-growing bacteria and prevent harmful bacteria from multiplying.
The concoction of honey and water is an effective way to treat gums and produces hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic that averts the growth of disease-causing microorganisms. When honey is applied to gums, it starts to act as an antimicrobial agent that immediately performs its objective of fighting gum infection and alleviating pain caused by gingivitis.
To use honey, rinse the mouth with lukewarm water and two to three teaspoons of honey to the inflamed or infected gums. Keep this routine for a few days to eliminate the infection. Applying a mixture of lemon and honey may also help lessen the disease and give instant relief. Another option is to massage honey on the gums for at least 10 minutes every morning.
However, babies and toddlers under two years old should not be given honey since it can lead to infant botulism.
