14 At-Home, All-Natural Remedies For Chapped Lips

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is another edible treatment for dry and chapped lips. However, not many may realize that this hardy succulent plant can be consumed raw or processed into other food products.

Aloe vera has a soothing effect on the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent swelling and soreness. A review article in the Indian Journal of Dermatology says aloe vera has 75 potentially active constituents, including minerals, vitamins, sugars, enzymes, saponins, lignin, and amino acids. These provide a wide range of benefits to the dermal parts of the body.

Aloe vera’s vitamins and minerals help the skin heal and have antioxidant benefits. In addition, its fatty acids and hormones have anti-inflammatory activity. The hormones auxins and gibberellins, in particular, aid wound healing and control inflammation. Moreover, aloe vera has 20 of the 22 amino acids the human body requires for normal functioning and healing.

The gel part inside the aloe vera leaves is what you need for the treatment. Cut a fresh leaf from the plant to bring out the gel. You may directly apply the leaf to your lips after exposing its gel, but be careful with the thorns.
