Onion Extract
Onion might not come to mind instantly as an effective skincare ingredient. But it does have several benefits, particularly in treating acne scars.
Onion contains sulfur, a component that helps clear dead skin while encouraging the growth of new skin cells. It also contains antioxidants like quercetin, which fights inflammation, softens skin, induces healing, and lightens dark marks. The tear-inducing kitchen staple also has acne-fighting, anti-bacterial properties. As a result, it will not only help lighten pimple scars but fight the root of the problem by dealing with breakouts.
All types of onions are valuable as a home treatment for acne scars. People may use red, yellow, or white, depending on what’s available in the pantry. However, the highest antioxidant concentration is at the outer layers instead of the inner rings. To use it, chop the onions, add them to a cotton cloth, and squeeze to extract their juice. Then, apply onion extract to the affected part, leave it on for 20 minutes, and rinse with water.
Using onion on the skin may come with a sting, but it could be helpful to tame the appearance of acne scars. Results may also show after four weeks of daily use.
