Blood in the Urine
Hematuria, or blood in the urine, is a rare symptom of high blood pressure. In the majority of cases, blood in the urine is an indication of a urinary tract or kidney problem. However, it’s important to note that severe high blood pressure, or when hypertension persists for several years without treatment, can result in kidney damage. In the United States, high blood pressure is among the most common causes of kidney failure, next to diabetes.
High blood pressure-related hematuria is a sign of beginning kidney damage due to the additional pressure in the blood. A person might have pink, red, or brown urine if there’s blood in it. Blood in the urine can also be hardly visible unless a doctor performs a urine test.
Hematuria may be a result of a variety of issues and circumstances. Although not all of these are cause for concern, always consult a doctor if blood exists in the urine. When an individual excretes urine with too much blood, call for immediate medical help. The same should be done when blood clots appear in the urine.
