Dark-Colored Urine
Dark-colored urine is a sign of liver damage. It’s a common symptom of Hepatitis B, but other conditions can also cause it. For example, when a patient has jaundice due to hepatitis or other liver diseases (like cirrhosis), the body will turn the bilirubin in the blood into a dark pigment called urobilinogen.
This pigment then gets excreted through the kidneys and into the urine. The color of these pigments varies depending on their concentration and amounts in the urine, but they typically appear as brownish-red or dark-colored yellow.
The discoloration also indicates that the kidneys filter out large amounts of blood, suggesting the liver is not functioning normally. A doctor has to be consulted if dark-colored urine is observed, which may suggest a liver disease.
