Home Remedies For Heartburn: 10 Ways To Get Rid Of Acid Reflux

Ginger

Ginger has a long and good history of use in Chinese medicine. According to the National Center for Complimentary and Integrative Health (NCCIH),  since this plant is known to help relieve nausea, others believe it may also be used to treat heartburn.

Fresh ginger can relieve the discomfort caused by heartburn in two ways – it absorbs stomach acid and calms the nerves that cause heartburn. As a result, it lessens the probability of stomach acid rising into the esophagus. It decreases inflammation as well, thus providing immediate relief from the irritating sensation caused by heartburn.

You can grate or dice ginger root to your favorite soups and food dishes. Also, take ginger tea regularly. Add one teaspoon of the freshly grated herb to one cup of boiling water and let it boil for a few minutes. Drink this beverage several times a day to help ease heartburn discomfort.

Though ginger may help relieve heartburn symptoms, it should only be taken in small doses. Too much ginger consumption can worsen heartburn. It is likely best to avoid ginger ale also. Carbonated drinks are common triggers for heartburn. In addition, most brands of ginger ale are made of ginger flavoring instead of the real thing.
