Laser Therapy
There are currently three widely used treatments for genetic hair loss: Finasteride medication to prevent testosterone from adhering to hair follicles and slow down hair loss; Minoxidil topically and continuously on the scalp to thicken and swell the hair, and hair transplant surgery using hair from the denser area. This approach is appropriate for complex and severe conditions. The benefit of this technique is that the hair can be permed, colored, and cleaned for a lifetime.
A novel, quick-acting treatment called low-level laser therapy has become accessible. The low-level laser and the laser cap or comb are the two types of laser treatment now accessible. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), a device attachment that emits red laser light, softly stimulates the cells in the hair follicles. This portable device is usable at home and is appropriate for people with mild to moderate hair thinning.
The hair and hair follicles will become stronger through the daily use of this device for 15 minutes, which will also promote the growth of new, thicker hair. However, patients should consult their doctors for advice on usage and device.
