11 Green Stool Causes You Should Know (Common Triggers)

Gastrointestinal Conditions

IBS or irritable bowel syndrome and IBD or Inflammatory bowel disease are two gastrointestinal conditions that often cause green stools. IBD is characterized by chronic intestinal inflammation, which may lead to frequent bowel movements. On the other hand, IBS patients usually suffer stomach discomfort, bloating, and diarrhea.

Intestinal contractions are frequent in patients suffering from IBS-D or IBS-M. These contractions assist the food through the digestive system, but if they are too powerful or linger too long, you may develop irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.

Those with IBS-D or IBS-M may have diarrhea and other symptoms during flare-ups, which may be induced by stress, certain foods, such as wheat, dairy, and citrus, or hormonal changes, such as a woman’s menstruation. The patient might get green diarrhea if IBS causes feces to pass through the body too rapidly.

The occasional appearance of green feces is often typical. However, if the patient gets green diarrhea regularly, and it seems to be related to factors such as eating specific foods or feeling overwhelmed by stress, he should consult a doctor.
