Yogurt
You will often read online how yogurt could potentially help the body, particularly when it comes to the addition of good bacteria. However, yogurt is part of the FODMAP foods, which means even if it is considered a healthy food overall, it’s not a good idea for those suffering from diverticulitis.
As far as whether yogurt or ice cream is a better idea for those suffering from diverticulitis, both should be avoided equally. In most cases, people who can no longer eat ice cream due to health reasons will settle with yogurt. However, those suffering from diverticulitis will have to try to avoid both if they don’t want the symptoms to get any worse.
These foods have a chance at bothering the diverticula growths to the point where the growths could potentially become inflamed and sensitive. It could even start bleeding, which results in bloody bowel movements. While yogurt can contribute to a healthier gut due to the good bacteria, it’s best to avoid yogurt if you’re worried about diverticulitis symptoms.
