Application of Essential Oils
Essential oils are natural compounds extracted from plants. They capture the plant’s flavor and scent essence. Typically used in aromatherapy, essential oils can also prove beneficial for patients who suffer from skin conditions such as folliculitis.
The following oils are recommended – chamomile, eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove, tea tree, or lemon, as they contain the necessary compounds that can inhibit inflammation, swelling, infection, and itchiness. Essential oils are renowned for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. They believe these oils can fend off the bacteria, fungi, and viruses that cause folliculitis.
However, essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin because they can also irritate it. Instead, dilute several drops of the preferred essential oil on a carrier oil, such as coconut or jojoba oil, or a moisturizing cream before applying it to the skin.
