Wet Wrap Therapy

Another alternative treatment for folliculitis is wet wrap therapy, which is effective in handling folliculitis and other skin diseases. Wet wrap therapy is a procedure where the patient applies a double layer of tubular bandages or gauze on the infected area. The infected area is first applied with the necessary topical medication. The first layer of a warm moist cotton cloth layer is then applied, followed by a second, dry layer to protect the medication and the first layer.

The moist layer is rewetted by water, typically on schedule during the treatment phase. Then, the patient sleeps and does their daily routine with bandages. The treatment of the infected area is done at least once daily.

Wet wrap therapy can be done even at home, but the procedure must be followed faithfully to ensure its efficacy. Don’t dry the area with a towel after taking a shower to ensure a moist skin layer. Then, apply the prescribed topical ointment or cream using downward strokes. Finally, instead of applying wet wraps, use two clean cotton pajama sets, one atop the other, for at least four hours before applying a fragrance-free moisturizer.
