Sinusitis
Sinus infection is also one of the causes of eye pain. Sinuses are located behind the nose (sphenoid sinuses), between the eyes (ethmoid sinuses), the center of the forehead (frontal sinuses), and at the cheekbones area (maxillary sinuses). A person suffering from sinusitis has the symptoms of throbbing pain, discomfort in the cheeks and forehead, toothache, headache, and extreme eye pain. Different types of sinusitis manifest various symptoms. However, aches surrounding the eyes are common as it is an organ closest to the sinuses.
Too much mucus production because of allergies may result in inflammation of the nasal tissues, and its symptoms could last from 1 to 3 months. Symptoms of bacterial growth due to blockage of sinuses opening resulting in infection lasts 4 weeks or less. This often happens because of too much cold. Smoking and secondhand smoke are also risk factors for sinusitis as it damages a person’s cilia (hair-like projection), clogging the nasal canal with mucus.
Various medications and treatments can be given to anyone having trouble with their sinuses, depending on their age, medical history, and type of sinusitis.
