What Are The Triggers Of Eye Pain? 14 Common Causes

Glaucoma

Another cause of eye pain is glaucoma, where the optic nerve is damaged due to the high pressure in the eyes. This leads to the build-up of circulating fluid and can permanently damage a person’s eyesight. Children aged 1 to 24 months can already develop glaucoma (juvenile glaucoma). Still, they may have different symptoms than adults who have higher risks of developing glaucoma. Some of its manifestations may not be noticeable and require a comprehensive eye examination.

Severe eye pain, vomiting, nausea, headache, and blurry vision are symptoms of Angle-Closure Glaucoma (ACG). The eye drainage is blocked when the iris swells, and the fluid cannot flow normally, resulting in an abrupt rise of pressure. This serious eye pain that occurs inside requires immediate medical attention and treatment, as it may cause blindness.
