Post-Micturition Dribble
Post-micturition dribble or after dribble is a common symptom in men with enlarged prostates. The enlarged prostate gland obstructs the urethra, making it difficult for urine to flow out of the bladder. As a result, it can cause urine to leak out after urination, known as dribbling. Post-micturition dribble can be a nuisance and sometimes lead to urinary tract infections.
Due to the embarrassing nature of this condition, most men will not admit to having post-micturition dribble. However, performing pelvic floor exercises can improve bladder control and reduce the frequency of leakage over time. Like any other muscle in the body, it will weaken over time when the bladder is not exercised. Regular pelvic floor exercises strengthen the bladder muscles, resulting in less incidence of a post-micturition dribble.
Another option is to take medication to shrink the enlarged prostate caused by dribbling. Sometimes, lifestyle changes, such as avoiding caffeine and alcohol, can help reduce post-micturition dribble. If you are suffering from this condition, talk to your doctor about the best treatment options. When benign prostatic hyperplasia is left untreated, it can lead to more severe symptoms and complications.
