Blurry Vision
Another potential impact of diabetes on the human body is blurry vision. If the blood sugar levels in the body quickly change, it’s common for the eye lens to begin swelling, leading to this visual impairment. It can also happen if the level of blood sugar goes too low. However, these are short-term causes. On the other hand, long-term vision complications resulting from diabetes are more progressive and may worsen over time. Some problems that may occur from this are diabetic retinopathy, proliferative retinopathy, and non-proliferative retinopathy.
Other conditions may occur alongside the disease, especially with age. These include cataracts, glaucoma, eye surface damage, and macular degeneration. In addition, common diabetes treatments like insulin may affect vision as much as the disease itself. For example, some people have experienced blurriness because of insulin, but their vision eventually became normal after a few days. While, in many cases, it’s impossible to reverse any damage caused by diabetes to the vision, following effective treatment plans and maintaining glucose levels can slow its progression.
