Not Stretching Before Exercising

Stretching before doing some activities or exercising is recommended to avoid muscular damage and tension. When the muscle is overextended or ripped, it becomes strained or pulled. It often occurs due to a muscle being overworked, exhausted, or used incorrectly.

Any muscle can be strained, but the lower back, neck, shoulder, and hamstring, the muscle below the leg, are the most frequently affected. These strains may result in discomfort and restrict motion within the afflicted muscle area.

Meanwhile, mild to moderate strains can be successfully treated at home using ice, heat, and anti-inflammatory drugs. However, those with severe stretches or rips might need to see a doctor.

Muscles can contract (clench) unintentionally due to inactivity and inadequate stretching. Remember that stretching is crucial both before and after exercise. When a muscle cramp occurs, one should stop what they’re doing and stretch the affected area.

To help relax the tight muscle, one can extend, gently touch and massage it. It can also be relieved by standing up, shifting the weight to the leg that is affected, and bending the knees slightly. Sit on the floor with one foot or leg out in front if there’s a tight leg.
