Topiramate
Topiramate (Topamax) is an anti-seizure medication that may also be helpful for BED patients. The dosage for this medication, especially for children with BED, will always be based on weight. As doctors prescribe, often twice daily, take this medicine by mouth with or without meals. There are two options for taking this medication: either open the capsule and sprinkle the contents over a teaspoon of soft food or take it as directed.
Topiramate is recognized for helping those with BED and those with seizures who need medication to control them. Doctors may advise patients to take the drug once daily before bed at the beginning of the treatment and then gradually raise the dosage to twice daily. Depending on the patient’s response and condition, the course of treatment with this medication may run for weeks or months.
Topiramate has adverse effects like any other medication, including drowsiness, tingling in the fingers and toes, speech difficulties, diarrhea, bad taste in the mouth, and memory issues. If any of these effects occur while taking it, it’s advisable to tell the doctor immediately to avoid the possible worst effects.
