High Sugar Level or Diabetes
Diabetes is a health condition that affects the body’s way of turning food into energy. The body usually breaks down the food into glucose or blood sugar which is then transferred by the blood to the different parts of the body. However, people with diabetes have a metabolic condition that causes extremely high blood sugar. High blood sugar can cause several complications like multiple organ failures and balanitis.
People with diabetes have elevated amounts of glucose or blood sugar in the urine. A recent study shows the significant relationship between balanitis and diabetes – 12% of diabetic patients suffered from balanitis. Sugar-rich urine passes through the glans and dribbles in the foreskin, promoting the growth of bacteria and yeast. Bacterial and yeast infections lead to uncontrollable inflammation of the tip of the penis.
In addition, swollen glans and tight foreskin are some of the earliest signs of diabetes among uncircumcised men. So, balanitis caused by diabetes can be cured entirely once a person’s blood sugar levels return to normal.
