Sexual Intercourse
Because women are more likely than men to develop bacterial imbalances that lead to yeast infections, sexual intercourse can be a possible culprit.
While vaginal intercourse doesn’t necessarily cause yeast infections, one may be more susceptible to getting a yeast infection from intercourse if her partner’s penis comes into contact with the infected area. Some research also suggests semen itself may make intercourse more likely to cause yeast infections for some women.
This is especially true for women who have oral sex with men who have not been circumcised since uncircumcised men tend to have more yeast on their genitalia than circumcised men do. In some cases, it’s not only the sexual act that may lead to a yeast infection. If a woman is already prone to them and her body has an imbalance of yeast and bacteria, intercourse may simply be the final straw that causes the infection to flare up.
