Bulging Veins
Most people are familiar with the appearance of varicose veins. These large, gnarled veins can be seen just under the skin’s surface, often in the legs. What many people don’t realize, however, is that there is a link between varicose veins and venous bulging.
Venous bulging occurs when the valves in the veins are not functioning properly, allowing blood to pool in the veins, which causes them to enlarge and become twisted. Venous bulging can occur in any part of the body but is mostly seen in the legs. When left untreated, venous bulging can lead to serious health problems such as blood clots and skin ulcers.
There are several treatment options available for varicose veins and venous bulging like lifestyle changes, medical procedures, and surgery. Lifestyle changes such as wearing compression stockings or elevating the legs when sleeping can help to reduce symptoms and prevent further damage to the veins. Medical procedures such as sclerotherapy or endovenous laser ablation can also treat varicose veins and venous bulging. Surgery is usually reserved for severe cases that have not responded to other treatments.
