Abnormal Vaginal Discharge
Vaginal discharge is a fluid responsible for the cleanliness and infection-free state of the vagina. However, based on the age and the stage of a woman’s menstrual cycle, its color, texture, and quantity can vary. Certain alterations may indicate a more serious health issue. These include noticeable differences in consistency and changes in smell or color. Discharge often includes germs, fluid and mucus secreted by the cervix and vagina, and vaginal skin cells. Normal discharge frequently has a faint odor and might cause the vulva to become somewhat irritated. This discharge lubricates the vaginal tissues and protects the urine and vaginal tracts from infections.
Vaginal discharge is a normal biological process brought on by natural fluctuations in estrogen levels. Ovulation, sexual stimulation, birth control pills, pregnancy, etc., can all increase vaginal discharge. However, changes in the bacterial balance of the vagina can have a negative impact on the color, smell, and texture of vaginal discharge because vaginal infections are common when more dangerous germs are present.
Discharge from the vagina is natural. Nevertheless, some symptoms of vaginal discharge are abnormal and require professional help. These include greenish discharge, blood in urine, and abdominal pain.
