Strong-Smelling Urine
Water makes up the majority of urine. Urine odor is caused by the quantity and concentration of different waste materials the kidneys produce. Urine with a high water content and little waste has little to no odor. However, urine could smell strongly of ammonia if it gets very concentrated—a high level of waste materials with little water. Several compounds, like asparagus or some vitamins, might leave a noticeable urine odor, even in small concentrations. Unusual urine odor might occasionally signify a sickness or medical issue, such as cystitis, diabetes, and urinary tract infection.
The first indication of a urinary tract infection may be changes in the smell of the urine. This is because the presence of germs in urine may be causing an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the germs can multiply and travel to the bladder, kidneys, and other urinary tract areas. After that, one may start experiencing pain while urinating.
Mildly odorous urination rarely justifies a trip to the urologist unless the condition persists. However, it would be best to schedule a consultation if it is accompanied by additional symptoms like murky or bloody urine, burning or pain when urinating, fever, or chills, which may indicate more serious health problems.
