Vomiting Blood
A symptom of upper digestive tract bleeding is hematemesis. The bleeding can happen in the esophagus, stomach, or other parts of the upper digestive tract. Symptoms of hematemesis in ulcer patients include dark brown, dark red, or black vomit that may resemble coffee grounds. Stomach ulcers and severe stomach lining inflammation are the most frequent causes of bloody vomiting with abdominal discomfort. Bleeding ensues when the ulcer or inflammation damages an artery or other blood vessels.
Ulcer-related scarring, muscular spasms, and inflammation may obstruct the stomach’s outflow, causing serious health complications. Because of this, the individual will have bouts of violent vomiting and may feel nausea and fatigue. It may also be accompanied by a lack of appetite and a sensation of fullness after eating. Persistent vomiting may lead to dehydration and weight loss. Both minor and major bleeding may cause anemia, but only major bleeding often needs medical attention and sometimes even a blood transfusion. Bloody or black vomitus and stools may indicate severe blood loss.
Burns, sores, and soggy gums from violent vomiting and choking can also lead to bleeding. In any case, a doctor should be consulted if there is a noticeable quantity or if it has the consistency of coffee grounds.
