Avoiding Phytic Acid
Phytic acid is a natural plant substance that is believed to decrease the body’s absorption of nutrients like calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium. Since phytic acid hinders the bioavailability of these nutrients, high consumption of foods rich in phytic acid is believed to contribute to tooth decay.
Experts may advise patients with tooth decay to cut out foods rich in phytic acid. Cereals, legumes, rye, rice, maize, and wheat contain high phytic acid. In addition, some beans like pinto, navy, haricot, kidney, broad, and blackeye should also be avoided.
