Electrocautery
Tonsil stones can be removed through electrocautery. Electrocautery is a medical term used for the procedure that utilizes heat from an electric current to remove abnormal tissues in the body. This type of electrosurgery is known to apply direct current. Although the procedure sounds intimidating, this is the most convenient surgery because it controls the post-operational effects. This may also be used in removing tonsils for the prevention of tonsil stones.
The electric current used in electrocautery passes through an electrode placed near the removed tissues. Generally, it is not painful, especially when a healthcare provider does the procedure. Medications to numb the affected area are given before the procedure.
Another point to consider is electrocautery’s ability to control bleeding during surgery or after an injury. Because of the precision of the electrocautery, it can cut the tissue faster and easier. This will lead to lesser skin opening, which causes bleeding.
