13 Toenail Fungus Causes You Should Know (Common Triggers)

Acrylic Nail Polish

Nail polish is made up of lacquer, a liquid from shellac dissolved in alcohol that is applied on fingernails or toenails. There are four types of nail polish applications, basic, acrylic, gel, French, and dip powder. Of all the four types of nail polish application, acrylic is the most vulnerable type of nail polish to fungus and infections.

Acrylic is a nail polish application that uses artificial nails to extend the length of the original nails. It is attached to the nails through an applicator, a glue-type gel. Unfortunately, this moisture from the applicator attracts fungi that can cause diseases like toenail fungus.

Frequent wearing of acrylic nail polish will cause long-term susceptibility of the toenails to fungi. This is because the trapped moisture in the acrylic and the nails is a good place for the fungus to grow and spread diseases.
