Blindness
Blindness is not a common symptom of syphilis, but it can be very serious. Syphilis is a bacterial infection that, if untreated, can seriously affect the body and cause long-term damage to the eyes.
When syphilis enters its tertiary stage, it can cause serious complications, including eye problems. Dry eyes and blurry vision are two symptoms of syphilis in this state. It can also cause vision loss due to retinal damage and blindness by destroying optic nerves and other parts of the eye.
Syphilis has three forms – the primary stage (which is when signs and symptoms first appear), secondary syphilis (which is characterized by skin or mucous membrane lesions), and tertiary syphilis (which features neurological problems). In rare cases, blindness can occur as a sign of this disease during any of these stages. However, in most cases, blindness is linked to late-stage syphilis.
