Extreme Fatigue
Most people are unaware that worm infections can cause extreme fatigue. People with worm infections may become exhausted because they can’t function normally, work, socialize, or do anything they enjoy. So how can a tiny worm cause fatigue? Well, it all comes down to the way intestinal worms live.
Intestinal worms are closely related to flatworms and tapeworms. An intestinal worm is a parasite that lives in the digestive tract and absorbs nutrients from its host’s food supply. While most parasites prefer to be close to their hosts, intestinal worms have a more distant relationship with their hosts. Instead of being inside them, parasitic worms live inside their host’s intestines, absorbing nutrients from their waste products as they pass by.
These parasites secrete chemicals into the gut that break down the useful parts of food for absorption into their bodies to get energy from their hosts’ food. This causes the food to pass through the body quickly, resulting in severe diarrhea and making it hard for a person infected with worms to get enough nutrition from food alone without getting sick or becoming fatigued. This rapid transit can also lead to severe constipation since the worms absorb so many nutrients that they do not need to pass stools. These symptoms can be severe and even life-threatening for a person infected with intestinal worms.
