Growth Delay
Growth delay is a symptom of worms in humans or helminthiasis. Helminthiasis can occur when infection with the parasitic worms causes damage to the host’s tissues and impedes normal growth. When the parasites grow inside the body, they can cause intestinal obstruction and malabsorption, which results in malnutrition.
The worms can also cause liver or intestinal abscesses to form. These abscesses can lead to other conditions, such as cholangitis or pancreatitis. If they aren’t treated, these abscesses could necessitate surgery, as they might block essential bodily functions or become infected and spread further throughout the body.
Helminthiasis is caused by several different parasites that invade the body through food or water contaminated with eggs from adult worms. Roundworms, pinworms, whipworms, and tapeworms cause the most common types of helminthiasis.
