The Sense of Impending Doom
Aside from the urge to run from triggers, anxiety can often make sufferers feel a sense of foreboding and impending doom. Anxiety disorders can cause perceived threats to be much more overwhelming than they are, resulting in the feeling of impending doom that could eventually trigger the fight or flight mechanic. It’s not easy to manage such a feeling, and the inability to sit down and relax can cause this feeling to persist, resulting in more symptoms as the anxiety gets worse.
Similar to the urge to run from triggers, the idea is to consider everything logically and try to separate your heart from your mind. When you consider things logically, it becomes much easier to figure out if you are simply overthinking things. Even if there’s a relatively high chance of something going wrong, you’re only hurting yourself twice over. It’s best to be more optimistic about what’s going on and to be content that you are doing your best.
Anxiety can be hard on people due to the sense of foreboding and impending doom, but knowing is half the battle. Understanding that your mind is habitually blowing things out of proportion can help.
