Lip Cancer
There are many types of cancer diagnosed all around the world. They come in different forms and affect distinct areas and parts of the body. One type is lip cancer. This kind of oral cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow in specific areas, resulting in tumors or patches on the lips. Lip cancer develops on the skin of the lips and is commonly found in the lower lip, though it can also occur in the upper lip or both. It is usually caused by the abuse of smoking cigarettes, pipes, snuff, or tobacco, exposure to much sunlight, a lowered immune system, and consumption of toxic and harmful substances like alcohol.
A person diagnosed with lip cancer would feel a tingling sensation, slight numbness, swelling on the lips and jaw, and pain from bleeding. A tiny sore that never heals for a long period also grows around the mouth, and the patient may observe a slight discoloration of the lips. Though it can occur to anyone, it is most common to develop in men than in women. Furthermore, lip cancer may be treated by chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.
